PA-247 Very Rare PMG XF40 EPQ 2s6d April 20, 1781 Pennsylvania Currency Note
PA-247 "Very Rare" PMG XF40 EPQ 2s6d April 20, 1781 Pennsylvania Currency Note. A very rare note in any condition, and especially so in Extra Fine EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality) Condition. April 20, 1781 "Two Shillings and Six Pence" Pennsylvania Colonial Currency Note. PMG has graded just (6) different examples to date, and this XF40 EPQ is exceeded in grade by only one example in XF45 EPQ condition. The other four are graded lower. There are no known about uncirculated or uncirculated examples of a PA-247. PCGS has graded just (5) notes in total, and three of those are apparent graded with problems leaving just two examples that are problem-free, a note graded VF, and one graded AU. That's a total of (11) notes graded by PCGS & PMG combined in over 15+ years of grading colonial notes. This PMG XF40 EPQ is the 3rd Highest Graded Combined (PCGS & PMG) and is certainly one of the finest known, and one of the few that have received the coveted EPQ modifier. This exceptional colonial note would be a great addition to any advanced colonial currency collection!

Very conservatively graded & certified by PMG as XF40 EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality) with no problems of any kind, and there are no pin holes either. In fact, his particular example looks as though it could grade (should grade) considerably higher as there are no visible folds and little, if any, signs of circulation. This note has the look of being unc.

Irculated, and I see no reason what-so-ever why this note did not grade much higher! Superb Eye-Appeal, full and even borders, perfectly centered, attractive "chevron pattern" vignette on the back, and darkly inked. Bold 5-digit serial number 11699 in red ink, as is the signature of Isaac Howell.

The thick ragpaper is watermarked. On two lines when viewed with a light source behind (see photo). "Pennsylvania" misspelled on purpose as an anti-counterfeiting device. This is an authentic & historical item that was printed in 1781 and issued during the Revolutionary War (1775-83), just about 5 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. (trackable) to anywhere in the United States.
